WWE News: Johnny Mundo refuses to rule out WWE return

Johnny Mundo has enjoyed a lot of success since joining Lucha Underground

What’s the story?

Lucha Underground superstar Johnny Mundo recently appeared on an interview with WRESTLE:LIST where he discussed the possibility of him making a comeback to the WWE.

In case you didn’t know…

Johnny Mundo signed a developmental contract with the WWE after winning the 3rd season of Tough Enough in 2002. He made his main roster debut on Raw in March 2004 as an apprentice and assistant to then-Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff.

Mundo worked with the company for nearly eight years, a period during which he became a 3-time Intercontinental Champion and 5-time tag team champion. His WWE contract came to an end in November 2011, post which he briefly wrestled on the independent circuit before joining Lucha Underground in 2014.

The heart of the matter

Asked about whether he was considering a return to the WWE, ‘The Shaman of Sexy’ replied that he was happy working with Lucha Underground which he felt had the best wrestling on TV. Here’s what Mundo said:

“Well, right now I’m under contract with Lucha Underground. And I’m really happy with Lucha Underground. In my opinion it has the best wrestling on TV currently.”

He added that he was not sure if he'd go back to the WWE but did admit that headlining WrestleMania had been a lifelong dream for him. ‘The Guru of Greatness’ claimed that one should never say never in wrestling. He told WRESTLE: LIST this:

“Will I go back to WWE? I don’t know. It’s what I grew up on and I always dreamt of headlining a Wrestlemania, and it’s one of the few things that I haven’t achieved that I dreamed of as a kid. Never say never in Wrestling.”

What next?

With the Lucha Underground promotion being on a hiatus at present, Johnny Mundo is working with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and on the independent circuit as well.
