She's getting a title shot

What's the story?

Kairi Sane delighted audiences all over the globe when she pulled down the victory over Shayna Baszler to win the inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament.

A lot of people were assuming this win would come with a title match attached and that's exactly what is going to happen.

In case you didn't know...

Asuka was the NXT Women's Champion for the longest time but she had to vacate the title after breaking her collarbone. It was a sad occurrence but it opened the door for The Empress Of Tomorrow to debut on Raw.

A lot of people were wondering how WWE would deal with Asuka's recently vacated title. At the same time, an all-female tournament was going on called the Mae Young Classic.

The heart of the matter

ESPN first broke the news that Kairi Sane would be awarded an NXT Women's Championship match at NXT TakeOver: Houston on Saturday, November 18th. This TakeOver special in Houston will be special in more ways than one.

Even though we know Kairi Sane is getting an NXT Women's Championship match, what we don't know is who she will be facing in Houston.

If NXT arranges another tournament it might be too soon for that kind of booking but crazier things have happened before. One thing's for sure, there is no shortage of women in NXT more than ready to take Kairi Sane on for Asuka's former title.

What's next?

This is clever booking from WWE, but it was expected. Hopefully, whoever gets the NXT Women's Championship next won't be intimidated by the massive shadow of Asuka following them wherever they go.

Author's take

Kairi Sane was a huge highlight of the Mae Young Classic and the right woman won the tournament. Even though Shayna Baszler lost she still has a bright future in sports entertainment if she wants it.

Who knows? WWE very well might already have something in place to bring Baszler back into the picture along with Ronda, Shafir, and Duke. That has been rumoured for a while and while it was odd nothing happened at the Mae Young Classic finale between the two factions, the focus was on the match which was probably for the best.

But for now, "The Pirate Princess" Kairi Sane is getting a title shot and I can't wait to see how this one goes down.
