WWE News: Kane to announce his mayoral bid next week

Kane has been vocal of his political views in the past

What’s the story?

Glenn Jacobs, who is also known as Kane in the WWE, will announce his plans to run for mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. According to WBIR TV, the Big Red Machine, as he was formerly known in the promotion, will make his announcement on Tuesday, April 11th at 2 PM ET.

In case you didn’t know...

Kane is a bonafide legend in the WWE and hasn’t been seen in action in the squared circle since Orton turned on him to join forces with Wyatt after he was paired with the Viper. During his tenure with the promotion, Kane has won an astounding 23 total championships.

Jacobs has expressed his intent to run for mayor in the recent past and stated that he cares deeply for the state. He has been pretty vocal when it comes to his views on politics in the past and is a Libertarian, who even has a political blog.

The heart of the matter

Kane reportedly filed the paperwork to appoint a political treasurer on March 1st and has also taken other steps required to run for office. The report from WBIR TV further states that the announcement will be made at a local establishment called Sweet P’s. Jacobs’ family and close friends are expected to attend.

Bryan Hair, Kane’s rep, has ensured that it will be a ‘fun-filled event’.

What’s next?

Kane will run as a Republican as he has registered as one on the form and will now have to file a nominating petition by November. The election is set to take place in May of 2018.

Author’s take

Given the intricacies, time and effort a political run requires, I think it’s safe to say that we will not see Kane in a WWE ring for a while. However, we wish him the best of luck in his political endeavours and hope he is successful in this particular campaign.
