What's the story?
Former WWE Superstar and UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock called out Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle and The Rock for a title bout in his interview with The DELZ Show.
"The World's Most Dangerous Man" expressed his wish to capture the Heavyweight belt. However, he clarified his intentions of going after the belt only if he is booked against the likes of current WWE legends including Lesnar, Angle or The Rock.
In case you didn't know...
Shamrock made his WWE (then WWF) debut twenty years ago in February 1997. Despite entering the business as a fan favourite, Shamrock spent most of his time feuding with WWE greats and was deprived of any title reign.
However, his heel turn in the following year took him to his first title win as he clinched the Intercontinental Championship. This entire storyline had him involved with The Rock for a very long time during which their feud generated immense popularity amidst the fans.
The heart of the matter
Last Sunday, Shamrock was present at the WrestleCade being held in North Carolina. When asked about his plans for retirement, he was prompt in his response. He started by saying that there is no milestone left for him to conquer in the world of MMA.
However, he has an unfinished business in WWE. Revealing more details about his wish to capture the heavyweight belt, Shamrock extended an open challenge to the future Hall of Famers.
In the WWF, or the WWE as they call it now, the one thing that I was not able to capture was that Heavyweight belt. And I’m telling you, I want a chance to be able to go after that belt. But only if, either Brock Lesnar has it, The Rock has it or Kurt Angle has it.
He also stated that he could have done it before but The RocK had the belt and he 'ran away'. Hence, he called out to his former WWE opponents and asked them to make it happen.
What's next?
There has been no response to Shamrock's challenge as of now. However, we speculate that the WWE Universe will love to see him locking horns with The Rock, Lesnar or RAW GM, Kurt Angle, as they are in dire need of new storylines to keep the fans engaged in the coming weeks.
Author's take
Although it's an encounter that will be welcomed by fans, it is hard to determine the timeline of the same. Shamrock's entry and fight with any of the three wrestlers he has mentioned will do good for both the parties.
If this happens, Shamrock will get his dream title chase. On the other hand, Lesnar or Angle against Shamrock will allow them to showcase their wrestling skills that currently appear to be rusted owing to their stale bookings.
As far as Shamrock vs The Rock is concerned, both these wrestlers have had a history with each other. A fresh title feud between them will pick up the story right where they left. Well, who in their sane mind, would not love to see that?
