WWE News: Kenny Omega gives his take on WWE's developmental system

Will they ever be a good fit?

What's the story?

Kenny Omega is known the world over as one of the best pro wrestlers on the planet and has put on amazing encounters where ever he goes.

Some might not realise that Omega tried WWE before going to Japan. It turns out they weren't the best fit and Omega talked all about it on E&C's Pod Of Awesomeness.

In case you didn't know...

Kenna Omega started wrestling for Winnipeg-based Premier Championship Wrestling in 2001. But four years later, WWE called and Omega was shipped off to Deep South Wrestling which WWE was using as a developmental system at the time.

Omega has been critical in the past about the way Bill DeMott and Jody Hamilton conducted their business with him while in Deep South Wrestling. They paired Kenny Omega up in a couple tag teams with guys like Heath Slater, that didn't work, and Omega soon requested a termination to his WWE contract.

After being granted his release from WWE, Kenny Omega perused every dream he had in professional wrestling and continues on that path today.

The heart of the matter

Kenny Omega has done a lot during his time in Japan and as he continues in his career he has looked back at WWE with a grain of salt. The politics and way WWE's developmental system was being run at the time didn't mesh with his off-the-beaten path approach.

"The Cleaner" might have one of the best minds for match storytelling in wrestling today but that didn't seem to matter in the eyes of those running the show in Deep South Wrestling.

"I felt like any attempt to show my personality was sabotaged in a way a little bit. I would have a move, for example, and then, I'd have somebody tell me exactly why it makes no sense."

He also added how easy it is to say pro wrestling moves don't make sense.

With his creativity stifled in Deep South Wrestling under that regime, it wasn't a good fit for Kenny. There was nothing he could do but leave WWE and establish himself on his own with no apparent backing from the world's largest professional company.

"I was kind of mindf*cked a little bit and I started to, not lose confidence in myself, but just lose confidence in the system."

What's next?

Kenny Omega went on to take part in even more amazing moments in the ring. If WWE ever calls him again it would have to be different next time. After all, Kenny Omega's name already has plenty of real estate value so he might not even see developmental.

Author's take

I would love to see Kenny Omega wrestle in WWE. But in reality, the idea scares me, in a way because there's no telling how the WWE Machine would treat someone like Kenny Omega.

His matches wouldn't be given the same time and his gimmick might receive a white washing.
