WWE News: Kevin Owens to face a furious Randy Orton on next week's SmackDown LIVE

Would Kevin Owens have been better off fired than against 'The Viper?'
Would Kevin Owens have been better off fired than against 'The Viper?'

What's the story?

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were true to form and interrupted the Survivor Series main-event costing Team SmackDown LIVE the victory, and specifically causing Randy Orton to get eliminated.

As part of Owen's ongoing punishment for his insubordination, SmackDown General Manager, Daniel Bryan has placed him in a match with the furious Randy Orton.

In case you didn't know...

Tensions were high in the SmackDown LIVE locker room following Survivor Series with the blue brand failing to prove that they were the 'A Show.' Shane McMahon had to send Randy Orton home for the night as he was so angry.

Orton wasn't the only angry one as the Commissioner wanted to fire Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for their involvement at the pay-per-view. Daniel Bryan prevented this from happening but put them in a tag team lumberjack match against the New Day so that the rest of the locker room could get their hands on the duo.

The heart of the matter

Owens and Zayn took a lot of punishment in the lumberjack but were somehow able to steal a win after the entire SmackDown locker room ends up brawling on the outside of the ring. The New Day isn't done with them yet however and try to continue their assault on the SmackDown turncoats leading to Owens running off to leave his partner to the wolves.

The night didn't end there for Owens though as he ran into Daniel Bryan backstage and begs the General Manager not to fire him and Sami. Bryan tells Owens he was never going to fire him and that he'll be facing 'The Viper' Randy Orton on next week's SmackDown LIVE.

What's next?

Owens leaving Sami Zayn to get mauled by the New Day is incredibly reminiscent of when the cracks started to show in his relationship with Chris Jericho.

I'd imagine Owens will ask Sami to help him against Randy Orton and Sami might be a little reluctant to help his 'Best Friend' after he was abandoned.

Author's take

My only issue with all of this is I have absolutely no idea where it's going or what the payoff is? Do Owens and Zayn become tag-team champions, do they break up and feud with each other, do they continue to be a thorn in Shane McMahon's side? What's the point of any of this?
