WWE News: Kota Ibushi works dark match against former Champion in NXT

Ibushi is a 3-time IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion

To determine the best cruiserweight wrestler in the world, WWE organised the CruiserWeight Classic; a tournament consisting of 32 of the best cruiserweights from various parts of the globe.

One of the most popular wrestlers amongst the participants is Kota Ibushi. The former IWGP Jr. Tag team Champion has 12 years of in-ring experience and several fans wanted him to perform for WWE. Although the future of the CWC participants in WWE is uncertain, it seems Ibushi may stay back with the company.

Supporting this rumor wrestlinginc.com reports that Kota Ibushi wrestled a match, during the recent WWE NXT tapings at Full Sail University. Ibushi faced a former NXT Tag team Champion Murphy.

It is not confirmed whether that match was a dark match or not. If WWE decides to air the match, then the fans may get to watch it possibly on the August 3rd or August 10th edition of NXT.

Ibushi’s wrestling career started in DDT Pro-Wrestling around 2004. Since then, he has worked for several independent wrestling organisations. He joined NJPW in 2009 and worked for the company till the early months of 2016.

During his tenure at New Japan, he won the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship 3 times and teamed up with Kenny Omega to grab the Junior Heavyweight Tag team Championship. Last year, Ibushi won the New Japan Cup.
