What's the story?

A legal case involving theft and fraud against former WWE Tag Team Champion, Joey Mercury, has been dismissed.

In case you didn't know

Mercury debuted in WWE during 2005, as one third of MNM, alongside Johnny Nitro and Melina.

After splitting with the group, he would join CM Punk's Straight-Edge Society in 2010, before working as J&J Security years later for The Authority.

In January 2017, Mercury was released from the WWE, and went to the independent scene.

In September 2018, Mercury was arrested in Illinois, for having an outstanding warrant for his arrest, which included Petty Theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, totaling over US$100, and grand theft auto.

He was supposed to have been a producer at ALL IN, but wasn't able to attend.

The heart of the matter

In a statement from Mercury's attorney, Jeffrey Weiner, a scathing review of the police involved led to to the Florida PD being described as an "embarrassment to our criminal justice system".

The actions of the Winter Park, Florida Police Department represents the sloppiest and most incompetent police work anywhere. Mr. Birch [Mercury] never should have been charged with either of those crimes. A review of the evidence which was on videotape makes it absolutely clear that the perpetrator of the crimes was not Adam Birch [Joey Mercury].

Weiner also said that he was grateful to the Orange County's State Attorney office for realising that Mercury was innocent, but said it took them far too long to do so.

Mr. Birch has suffered irreparable harm to his excellent reputation all because of disgraceful police work. He was arrested in Chicago and subjected to inhumane treatment while he was incarcerated in Chicago.

What's next?

Mercury will presumably continue to work on the independent scene now he has been cleared of all wrong doing.
