What's the story?
Although it does seem like it sometimes even Vince McMahon is not immortal. Legendary WWE announcer Jim Ross was asked by Business Insider recently, who, in his opinion will take over from Vince McMahon once he's done.
In Jim Ross' estimation, the first name that he thought of as the future leader of WWE was Vince McMahon's son-in-law, Paul Levesque AKA Triple H.
He also named Stephanie McMahon as a contender, but ruled out Shane McMahon, saying that he seemed content to be an on-screen character, at the moment.
Of the lot, JR specified that Paul Levesque seemed 'earmarked' for the role, of taking over the WWE empire.

Professional wrestling used to be a regional business, before Vince McMahon took it to national television and revolutionized the product forever.
Today, WWE pretty much controls a monopoly in the market of professional wrestling. While many other notable promotions do exist, WWE is leaps and bounds ahead of them all in terms of sheer numbers and penetration, at this moment.
At the same time, Vince McMahon is 72 years old, and no, even he can go on forever.
The heart of the matter
Ross said the following about Triple H, in the interview:
You always knew that he was different from the other guys. He was very studious and very under control. He didn't drink, no drugs. Looked to be a lifer, early on.
Ross also mentioned how Triple H had been a fan all his life and trained for the business by Killer Kowalski. Therefore, Hunter was the heir apparent to the WWE throne.
Jim Ross went on to sing praises of all three contenders, but picked Triple H from the lot, as Vince McMahon's successor.
He did mention though, that he did not know if Shane McMahon would be happy with an on-screen role, going forward.
What's next?
Vince McMahon still has a lot of fuel in his tank, so it'll be a while before his successor is crowned.
Author's take
Triple H has done a commendable job with NXT, so he may not be a bad bet. He is younger and more in tune with current audiences, and so he'll probably understand market demands better.
As long as Triple H wants the huge responsibility, WWE is in safe hands.
