What’s the story?
The American Airlines has updated the advertisement for the upcoming WWE Great Balls of Fire PPV and revealed the event’s logo, which you can see above.
The background
Last month, the WWE announced that the Great Balls of Fire PPV will be held in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Centre in July. Moreover, the WWE announced Brock Lesnar would be defending the Universal Title at the event.
As expected, this created a buzz amongst casual and die-hard fans alike. Shortly thereafter, rumours of Braun Strowman being Lesnar’s opponent at the event began doing the rounds. However, at Payback, ‘The Monster Among Men’ picked up an injury. Needless to say, this put his rumoured showdown with Lesnar in Jeopardy.
The heart of the matter
Great Balls of Fire is indeed an important PPV for the WWE. Lesnar is one of the most recognisable stars on the roster at present. As such, his match is bound to be a big attraction.
The higher ups would be hoping that it lives up to expectations and proves to be a big hit with fans. At present, we do not know who’ll be facing Lesnar at the PPV. However, the fatal five-way, which will take place at Extreme Rules, announced on the latest episode of Raw will decide who ends up locking horns with ‘The Beast Incarnate’ at Great Balls of Fire.
The match will feature Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns and Finn Balor,
What’s next?
Lesnar is slated to return to WWE programming in June and things seem tantalisingly poised as the build-up to his title defence has already begun, as mentioned above.
Author’s take
Personally speaking, Great Balls of Fire isn’t a very good name for a WWE PPV. It just does not do justice to the adrenaline pumping content that the WWE is synonymous with. However, this can be overlooked if Lesnar and co put on a good show and give us an event to remember. After all, as they say, content is king!
