What’s the story?

NXT superstar Kairi Sane was spotted backstage during this week’s episode of SmackDown Live. Sane herself posted a photo from her backstage appearance where she was seen posing with Akira Tozawa and Shinsuke Nakamura.

In case you didn't know…

Sane signed with WWE back in 2016 after spending almost six years in World Wonder Ring Stardom. The Japanese star reportedly took a pay cut while signing with WWE and was immediately introduced into the Mae Young Classic Tournament.

She went on to win the Tournament and secured wins over Bianca Belair, Dakota Kai, Toni Storm and Shayna Baszler in the process. The tournament earned her a shot at the NXT Women’s championship which she failed to capture.

The heart of the matter

The photo posted by Sane showcases three major Japanese names that WWE has on their roster right now. It has also resulted in speculation among the fans on whether she is going to get called up to the main roster or not.

Meanwhile, another portion of the fans who replied to the tweet was interested in Sami Zayn who apparently photo-bombed the picture.

What’s next?

Back in NXT, Sane is involved in a program with Shayna Baszler and Ember Moon. The former UFC fighter made her NXT debut recently by choking out Sane in the last episode of the show. Before Baszler took her out, Sane was out to issue a challenge to NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon.

NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia is just a month away and Sane is expected to a match at the event even though her opponent is not confirmed yet.

Author’s take

Sane being backstage for SmackDown Live could be an indication of a future call-up. At the same time, it could also be a random visit from the NXT superstar to meet her friends.

Nevertheless, her tweet has got the fans talking and as a wrestler, that’s something you would want as well.
