Recently, Balor appeared on Jim Ross’ podcast The Ross Report to discuss several aspects of his life including his win at WWE Summerslam, his injury, the surgery, and his mental condition heading into rehabilitation, and his inevitable return to WWE programming. Balor said that the time period for his recovery would be between four to six months, but he was prepared for the worst and expected it to be at least six months.
This would schedule a return in February or March making him available for WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. He said that when the time for his return would draw near, he would be stronger than ever.
But things may not turn out as planned for Balor. If some reports are to be believed, a torn labrum can sideline an athlete for as much as eight to nine months.
As hard as it may seem be to believe, there is some merit to the idea that Finn Balor could, in fact, miss Wrestlemania 33 in Orlando next year after the latest reports. But he has just started his recovery period and it is too early to be making any assumptions.
It seems best for the time being to let things work out on their own. On the brighter side, Balor seems to be determined in getting back to hundred percent fitness before making a comeback
After Balor was forced to relinquish the title, Kevin Owens has occupied the top spot making RAW “the Kevin Owens show”. In fact, the last episode of RAW garnered a lot of interest and ratings. Balor was definitely the first man in line to spearhead the New Era for obvious reasons, but it looks like Owens is the man burdened with the responsibility of carrying the red brand in the short term.
Finn Balor’s time at the top of the mountain with the WWE Universal Championship may have been brief, but that doesn’t alter his importance on the main roster of WWE programming. In fact, Balor has achieved a lot in a short span during his WWE career. He took down ‘The Architect’ Seth Rollins in a clean match at WWE Summerslam to become the first WWE Universal Champion, which in itself is a huge indicator that WWE creative views Finn Balor as a major player.
Earlier, Balor had scored decisive victories over Cesaro, Rusev, and Kevin Owens in a fatal four-way match and then went on to beat Roman Reigns on the same night to stake his claim for the Universal Championship. Had things gone his way, Balor would have been the future of RAW’s main event scene for the foreseeable future.
He’ll always go down in history as WWE’s first Universal Champion, but his injury was a blessing in disguise to Kevin Owens, who became the second holder of the title on RAW this week in a match that marked the return of Triple H.
But the question at hand is when will Finn Balor return to WWE sooner than expected?
