WWE News: Matt Hardy teases his "Woken" avatar with an incredible promo

What's the story?

Matt Hardy has been teasing another transformation for quite some time now and it appears something could be finally happening. He might not be allowed to be 'Broken Matt' anymore, but he certainly seems 'Woken' in this new online promo.

In case you didn't know...

Matt Hardy found a lot of success in TNA/Impact Wrestling using a couple different versions of himself. There was Money Matt, Matt Hardy, and Broken Matt. The latter was obviously the most groundbreaking of the three.

When Matt and Jeff returned to WWE, Anthem Sports wouldn't let go of their Broken Hardy gimmick. But The House Of Hardy wasn't going to let this keep them down. After all, they've created new personas before so it was back to the drawing board.

But what they might have come up with is a sound-alike to "Broken Matt" and shares much of the same mannerisms; only Matt is now Woken instead. They have hinted in the past about this gimmick change and while we haven't had much of a direct reference to it lately on television, things could be changing soon.

The heart of the matter

Matt Hardy released an online promo in this new Woken Matt persona. It was quick and precise but it got the message across. Matt welcomes our adoration, disdain, and emotion because he plans on turning it into energy.

In this new promo Matt said:

"Shower me with your adoration. Engulf me with your disdain. Feed me your emotion. Feed me your energy and watch me metabolize it and turn it into power! Feed me your energy. Feed me your energy. Feed me your energy! Get woke! Stay woke!"

Hardy spoke in wonderful metaphors during the video. Although he didn't yell any of Broken Matt's real catch phrases or have the same vocabulary and sentence structure, his voice was very much the same tone.

This video didn't appear on WWE television so it's not an official part of the story yet. But it's very interesting to see what Matt has in mind when he transforms into a fully Woken state.

What's next?

Only time will tell if 'Woken Matt' will see the light of day in WWE. We can only hope so. But right now Matt and Jeff are having an unusual time as a tag team.

With Jeff's insertion into the IC Title picture, who knows where that will lead. But it looks like Matt already has a gimmick in line if Vince McMahon decides to break up The Hardy Boyz.

Author's take

It's a shame The House Of Hardy couldn't secure the rights to the Broken Hardy Universe. But Matt is making as much chicken salad he can out of the situation and he might have come up with something better.

Woken Matt seems like a very interesting character for sure and I can't wait to see what he can do if the gimmick ever gets the green light from WWE.
