WWE Superstar Mike Kanellis recently requested his release from WWE, and put out a statement on his official Twitter account. Soon after, he got into a heated Twitter exchange with NXT Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush.

Kanellis' career up to this point

Back in 2017, Mike Kanellis debuted in WWE alongside his wife Maria Kanellis. After a short stint on the main roster, the couple was moved to 205 Live, where they attacked Lince Dorado in their first appearance. Earlier this year, Ryan Satin from Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that Mike and Maria Kanellis had requested their release from the company. According to sources, the couple wasn't happy with the way they had been used for a while.

The two started appearing on RAW a few months later and were involved in the 24/7 title angle, winning the title on the same night. Recently, it was revealed by Maria that a returning Rusev was the father of her child, not Mike. The storyline didn't go anywhere and Rusev went on to get involved in another angle with his wife Lana, and Bobby Lashley.

Kanellis and Rush go at it on Twitter

Mere hours ago, Mike Kanellis requested his release from the company and put out a heartfelt statement on his official Twitter handle. He soon went after Lio Rush, who had recently won the NXT Cruiserweight title. Kanellis slammed Rush via a tweet, which was later deleted by him. Here's what he said:

You won 2 matches. Chill out. There’s an entire roster of Cruiserweights that were grinding and working their a** off for our Brand, while you were sitting at home for bad behavior. Let’s not act like you weren’t gift-wrapped the cruiserweight championship.

Rush didn't take the tweet lightly, and fired back at Kanellis for the same.
