WWE News: MMA fighter rips on CM Punk for stealing Hideo Itami's GTS finisher

Hi
Itami and Punk with the GTS finisher

What's the story?

Before CM Punk was adorning the WWE Universe with his GTS finishing move, there was a Japanese sensation named Kenta who revolutionized the manoeuvre and made it his own. Although Punk has fully admitted in the past that he lifted Kenta's finishing move, it still creeps its way back into conversation every now and then.

This came up once again as MMA fighter Colby Covington threw a dig at The Second City Savior for not only stealing the finishing move but also not being unable to pull off a victory in the Octagon.

In case you didn't know...

Kenta might be better known today as Hideo Itami and he is aiming to start making the 205 Live roster very soon.

The heart of the matter

It's been nearly four years since Punk walked out of WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble. However, his absence is still felt today with 'CM Punk' chants and other such mentions. But he seems to be focusing pretty hard on his MMA skill-set as he prepares for his next fight.

Punk recently earned a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and received congratulations from his coach Duke Roufus. However, he still doesn't have another fight lined up in the Octagon just yet.

What's next?

Although Punk's next fight might not be set in stone, it looks like one fighter wouldn't mind stepping in the cage with him. He's Colby Covington who is currently the number three welterweight in UFC's official rankings.

Author's take

Nothing can ever be totally original and that goes with finishing moves as well. Every now and then, we'll see something new but that's a rarity in today's day and age. Therefore, it's really unfair to hate on CM Punk for making the GTS famous in the United States before Hideo Itami could.
