WWE News: More top Raw stars affected by backstage flu outbreak
Even WWE Superstars can't escape the dreaded flu.
What's the story?
Last year the WWE was hit by a sweeping outbreak of viral meningitis or mumps that sidelined Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt. Unfortunately, in early 2018 the WWE are facing another backstage outbreak, this time with Superstars being sent home with flu. The latest Superstars affected, as per Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, are Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville.
In case you didn't know...
Earlier on in January, Enzo Amore was actually sent home from Monday Night Raw after presenting flu-like symptoms. However, he wasn't the only Superstar affected by the viral illness.
The heart of the matter
Dave Meltzer confirmed that it was a bad week for Absolution in terms of injuries and illnesses as both Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, who live together, were suffering from the illness, leading to them missing house shows. Although they still appeared on WWE television.
Wrestlinginc also covered the story, reporting that Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville have been house-bound for most of the week, posting on Snapchat that they have the flu, whilst Deville also posted a picture with the hashtag #flulife.
Given that Rose and Deville worked the most recent tapings of Monday Night Raw, they can't be too seriously ill. WWE seems to have taken a stricter stance when it comes to letting its wrestlers work when carrying viral illness following the TLC pay-per-view being completely upended by Reigns' and Wyatt's contraction of meningitis or mumps.
As someone who is also suffering from the flu at the moment, but doesn't have the added caveat of having to take bumps on a regular basis, I'd like to wish Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville a speedy recovery! Let us hope that all the ill Superstars undergo a speedy recovery so that things go as planned for the WWE without them having to face any more contingent situations.
