WWE News: Johnny Mundo admits that WrestleMania makes him want to return

Will Mundo set foot in a WWE ring again?

What’s the story?

Former WWE superstar Johnny Mundo has admitted to getting the itch to return to the company around WrestleMania season every year. Mundo spoke about this and much more during a recent appearance on X-Pac’s podcast.

In case you didn’t know...

Mundo has been tearing it up on the independent scene ever since leaving WWE, with his most notable work coming in Lucha Underground. Despite this, there’s a chance that Mundo could be a case of “what could’ve been” as he appeared to be right on the verge of becoming a full-time main event player when he initially left the company in late 2011.

The heart of the matter

During the interview, Johnny was incredibly honest about his time in WWE and said that he felt creatively stifled towards the end of his run. Despite this, he did mention that he always felt like returning to the company around WrestleMania time and that he wasn’t ruling out a return once he had finished shooting Season 4 of the aforementioned Lucha Underground.

What’s next?

We’ll have to wait and see whether or not Mundo gets another shot at wrestling on the Grandest Stage of Them All, with his last appearance at Mania coming back in 2011. At that show in Atlanta, he teamed up with Trish Stratus & Snooki to defeat Dolph Ziggler & LayCool, meaning that he’ll likely be looking to redeem himself if he does indeed take the plunge and return.

Author’s take

We’re ecstatic at the possibility of Mundo coming back because he’s one of the most underrated talents WWE have had at their disposal in years. Sure there were a few problems towards the end of his run, but he deserves another shot at glory, and we believe there’s a perfect spot for him as an upper midcarder over on SmackDown LIVE.
