WWE News: Neville almost unmasks Gran Metalik during RAW fight

There was a lot of high-flying action between Gran Metalik and Neville

What's the story?

On the final RAW before the No Mery pay-per-view, there were a number of controversial issues with one almost leading to a major talking point during a cruiserweight fight.

The Cruiserweight Champion Neville was facing Gran Metalik and almost unmasked before the champ picked up the win.

In case you didn't know...

The unmasking of a wrestler is a pretty big deal and that often leads to the wrestler to leave the organisation and is often seen as a humiliation of sorts. This also leads them to reveal their real name and the work put into building their in-ring persona goes down the drain.

Gran Metalik has been one of the consistent performers on 205 Live and in the cruiserweight fights and even took part in a 5-man elimination match for a shot at the title.

The heart of the matter

The incident took place during the fight when the two Superstars were battling outside the ring. Neville seems to have his hand in one of the holes in Metalik’s mask and what happened next was a little shocking.

Neville tugged real hard at the mask and it sort of ripped, revealing Metalik’s face. The wrestler quickly covered his face up and the match continued before Neville picked up the win.

What's next?

Neville is set to face Enzo Amore for the title at No Mercy and while Amore got an incredible beating from Braun Strowman, the almost unmasking of Gran Metalik would have left many with a sour taste.

Author's take

While Neville has been a perfect heel in the cruiserweight division and is possibly the best wrestler in the division too, this act was a little too much to accept.

Metalik being almost unmasked didn’t really help the storyline or even heighten the rivalry between the pair. The WWE has often called things wrong in their storylines and this incident too should have been avoided.
