WWE News: New WWE United States Champion Jeff Hardy moves to SmackDown Live

Jeff Hardy made his return from injury on the Raw after Mania...

What's the story?

On this week's edition of SmackDown Live, the WWE United States Champion, Jeff Hardy, moved to the blue brand in the Superstar Shakeup. He was officially announced when he came out to face Shelton Benjamin.

In case you didn't know...

Jeff, along with his brother Matt, made their triumphant return to the WWE at WrestleMania 33 last year in Orlando.

They were a surprise entrant in a tag team ladder match for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships; which the Hardy's won.

A shoulder injury sidelined the Charismatic Enigma in September, and he just made his return from injury last week on the Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania.

The heart of the matter...

After Monday Night Raw went off the air last night, the WWE announced via their social media platforms that Chad Gable was moving from SmackDown Live to Monday nights as a singles competitor.

Early on SmackDown Live this week, Benjamin came to the ring and cut a heel promo about how he didn't need Gable and he was here for some championship competition.

Randy Orton would answer the call, only to get interrupted by the newly minted WWE United States Champion.

It was on night one of the Superstar Shakeup on Raw where Hardy defeated Jinder Mahal for the title.

Orton is contractually the No.1 contender to Hardy's title when he defeated Bobby Roode and Rusev on the SmackDown Live after WrestleMania last week.

What's next?

Expect tensions to rise between the two WWE veterans Randy Orton and Jeff Hardy next week when SmackDown Live takes place from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

One has to assume that Orton wasn't too happy at Hardy cutting him off to take on Benjamin on this week's edition of SmackDown.

Author's take...

As much as I wanted Brother Nero to join WOKEN Matt Hardy on Monday Night Raw, I'm perfectly fine with The Charismatic Enigma making the move over to SmackDown Live for two reasons.

Hardy can still shine on his own in singles competition, and just imagine the dream matches that await on the blue brand with Shinsuke Nakamura, Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles.

My other reason is that I have completely enjoyed the return of Bray Wyatt as a babyface to team with WOKEN Matt Hardy.

In the short time, they have been allies, they have worked very well together, and as Jeff said in a WWE.com interview last week, you never know when Brother Nero will pop up.

Only the Charismatic Enigma is contracted to SmackDown Live!
