'Fearless' Nikki Bella proves she really is fearless as she eyes an in-ring return

What's the story?

Nikki Bella has expressed her desire to make a WWE comeback alongside her twin sister, Brie Bella, despite being advised by doctors and her own partner, John Cena, to quit wrestling for good following a serious neck injury.

In case you didn't know...

After an incredible 305-day title run, Nikki Bella was sidelined with a broken neck shortly after the Hell in a Cell 2015 pay-per-view. The neck injury quickly turned into a potential career-ending one with surgery required.

In fact, the neck injury was considered so serious that Nikki Bella was advised by her doctor to never return to in-ring action because of the potential risks, as shown in this preview clip from WWE Network show 'Total Bellas'

The heart of the matter

Nikki's surgeon says in the video: "If you were a family member of mine I'd probably be telling you, this is time to find something else" and that's exactly what Nikki Bella's partner, John Cena, has reportedly told her, as Nikki tells Fox News,

"He is like, you have your health. Why continue? You've done everything you can do as a WWE superstar."

However, Nikki has expressed her desire to return to the ring to E! News, despite Cena's concerns which is something that he allegedly understands and supports.

"It's tough because when you love something so much and you're very passionate about it you just don't ever want to hear the words retirement or you're career's over, I know that with my spinal condition I can never be full time again, I just can't do that but I do wanna be full time and I don't want to retire. I literally can't imagine not going into the ring and I want to make a comeback with Brie and I want to do it in 2018."

What's next?

Nikki is currently participating in 'Dancing with the Stars' and has made it to the half-way mark in the popular ballroom dancing competition.

After that, it looks like Nikki wants to reunite the Bella Twins on WWE television in 2018, which is a sentiment her twin sister Brie Bella has shared.

Author's take

We've seen neck injuries end the careers of many WWE wrestlers, like Edge and Sting. They really aren't something that should be taken lightly, but if 'Fearless Nikki' has her sights set on a return to the ring and knows the risks involved then ultimately that's her decision to make. It would also be good to give the Bella Twins one last WWE hurrah!
