From The WWE Rumor Mill: Possible plans for another Mae Young Classic Tournament next summer

We'll
We'll see you again next year?

What's the story?

The Mae Young Classic was a successful endeavor and apparently, WWE is working with the idea they'll do it again next year. Bryan Alvarez discussed these tentative plans on Wrestling Observer Live. He also went into some detail about possible upcoming plans for Ronda Rousey and Kairi Sane.

In case you didn't know...

The Mae Young Classic showcased 32 top female superstars from around the globe. Whether they won or lost, just being a part of this groundbreaking tournament was an honor.

It all came down to Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane in the final match. The Pirate Princess would pick up the win and take home that huge trophy and a bouquet of flowers, but Baszler put on an incredible performance.

Ronda Rousey and her Horsewomen were at ringside and even though they didn't get into an altercation, maybe it was for the best. They made the Mae Young Classic Finale all about the match and that made it feel even more special.

The heart of the matter

Bryan Alvarez discussed the future plans for Kairi Sane as well as WWE's possible intention of keeping the Mae Young Classic as an annual event on Wrestling Observer Live.

"There is an NXT taping tomorrow where Kairi is going to debut and probably another girl from the Mae Young Classic is gonna debut. And the latest I've heard and please don't write this as a certainty, because it's not, but next summer. I know everyone's been talking about a tag team deal but they may do another Mae Young Classic next summer. That seems to be the working idea right now."

Alvarez also noted WWE is apparently very happy with the way the Mae Young Classic was accepted this year so they don't plan on changing their binge-watching release format.

What's next?

If WWE keeps their working idea then we'll be talking about the second installment of the Mae Young Classic this time next year. We also might be talking about Kairi Sane in a much different way, as well.

Author's take

Another edition of the Mae Young Classic would be a fine idea. If WWE could pull the same group of competitors together it would make for outstanding television. But there are always ladies they missed who could certainly be included the next time around.
