WWE News: Raw viewership increases for WrestleMania go-home show

Goldberg ended the final Raw before WrestleMania 33 on a high by spearing Brock Lesnar

What’s the story?

Wrestling Inc has reported that the viewership for WWE Raw rose during its WrestleMania go-home show this week with as many as 3.292 million viewers.

In case you didn’t know…

This Monday’s Raw saw Brock Lesnar and Goldberg having one final encounter before their showdown for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33. Lesnar’s advocate, Paul Heyman, was trying to tell the crowd at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia how his client would decimate Goldberg on Sunday.

However, he was cut short by the Champion who claimed that he wanted to give the crowd in the arena a glimpse of what would happen at WrestleMania and headed towards the ring. ‘The Beast’ tried to charge Goldberg, only to receive a spear for his troubles. Even as Lesnar writhed in pain in the ringside area, ‘The Myth’ stood tall in the ring as the show closed.

The heart of the matter

Compared to last week’s figure of 3.048 million, the viewership for Raw increased significantly this week with 3.292 million people watching the show. While the first hour of the show attracted 3.253 million viewers, the second hour saw this number go up to 3.426 million. However, there was a slight dip during the final hour at 3.197 million.

The WrestleMania go-home edition of Raw occupied the #1 spot on cable in terms of viewership for the night. This is the joint second-best figure for WWE’s flagship show for the year, alongside the 23 January episode which saw an equal number of viewers (3.292 million).

The Royal Rumble fallout show is still on top in this regard with a figure of 3.615 million.

What next?

The 33rd edition of the WWE’s annual extravaganza will take place at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida this Sunday and it promises to be one hell of a night.

Author’s take

We can expect Raw to hit its peak viewership figure for the year during next week’s episode as it will be the WrestleMania-fallout show and there is likely to be a lot to look forward to. However, it may all depend on how things turn out at the grandest event on the WWE calendar.
