What's the story?

The WWE has been sharing a number of promos over the weeks on RAW regarding the Hispanic Heritage Month, and the latest tribute was for one of their former stars, Rey Mysterio.

Mysterio had left the WWE in 2015 but is considered as one of the greatest high-flyers in the industry.

In case you didn't know...

Mysterio is often credited as one of the pioneers of the cruiserweight division in the world of wrestling and even though he was not the tallest star in the WWE, the luchador picked up almost every single title in the WWE, including the WWE and the World Heavyweight Championship.

The heart of the matter

The video was posted on YouTube and touched upon his background in wrestling and the fact that Mysterio started training when he was just 14-years-old.

Many current stars also spoke about Mysterio and his flying ways with Kofi Kingston saying:

“He was always going to do something incredible, that was a guarantee”.

The tribute even touched upon the untimely demise of Mysterio’s friend Eddie Guerrero and how that spurred the luchador to win the Royal Rumble in 2006 and picked up the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22.

Mysterio also connected with his fans thanks to his numerous masks with John Cena claiming that Mysterio is a “superhero”, while AJ Styles added that with Mysterio’s heart, anything could be accomplished.

What's next?

WWE and NBC Universo would be looking to add more tributes during this special month and have already covered one of the greatest in Eddie Guerrero, as well.

Mysterio isn’t under contract with any wrestling company and takes up indie offers at the moment but he reportedly has a huge asking price.

Author's take

Mysterio was always one of the biggest draws in the WWE and he was one reason why many young fans would watch the various episodes thanks to his high-flying style.

He was the quintessential underdog, being smaller than most of the averagely sized wrestlers in the business, but that never stopped him from living the dream. His hard work has paid off thanks to a number of title reigns and his popularity across the world.
