What’s the story?
WWE have announced the return of Rey Mysterio on Monday Night Raw next week. The Greatest Mask of All Time is returning from an injury he suffered against Samoa Joe at WWE Money in the Bank.
In case you didn’t know…
Mysterio was taking on Samoa Joe for the United States title at Money in the Bank when he suffered an injury. The match was cut short as both men sustained injuries, but The Biggest Little Man came out victorious.
Joe suffered a broken nose while Mysterio had a separated shoulder and a bruised AC joint. This forced him to relinquish the title on Monday Night Raw after MITB and take time off to recover.
Confirming what happened at MITB, Mysterio said:
I suffered a recent injury at “Money in the Bank” versus Samoa Joe. Unfortunate for me because it was a big step moving forward and especially at this stage in my career at being able to capture one of the last titles that was set on my bucket list (The United States Championship) and again very important that I had a separated left shoulder and that put me out of circulation and I’ve been out four weeks now. The separation and bruised AC joint which the doctor had predicted anywhere from four to six weeks and of course four weeks closed out from my injury and my recovery is about 80% as we speak so I am hoping that in the next two weeks I can gain that other thirty that I have left and be back in the ring by the month of July.
The heart of the matter
Mysterio's hope of returning to WWE TV in early July is set to happen, and WWE have confirmed that he will be on Monday Night Raw on the 8th of July. It will be interesting to see who Mysterio faces on return as Joe is now in a feud with Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship while the US title is at the hands of Ricochet, who is involved in a feud with AJ Styles.
What’s next?
There are a few storyline possibilities to slot Rey Mysterio right back in. He could become Roman Reigns' mystery partner on RAW vs Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre, or help Ricochet get back at AJ Styles and the Good Brothers.
