What’s the story?

WWE superstar Rey Mysterio previewed today’s big match between Manchester United and Liverpool for MUTV (Manchester United TV) and he made it clear that his allegiance lies with Manchester United.

In case you didn’t know...

Manchester United vs Liverpool is one of the biggest rivalries in football history. The rivalry stemmed from the proximity of the two cities but it grew manifold over the years owing to the incredible success of both teams. Today, they are England’s two most successful clubs.

No football fixture draws a bigger audience worldwide than Manchester United vs Liverpool as an estimated 700 million fans watch the game.

The two teams are currently separated by just two points and this should make it an interesting contest.

The heart of the matter

Rey Mysterio visited Old Trafford, the home ground of Manchester United, in February for the very first time and was treated to VIP treatment.

Mysterio was in awe of the stadium and called it ‘breathtaking’. He is used to being in the spotlight but during his visit to Old Trafford, the fanboy in him came out as he spoke about the vibe, the adrenaline and the rush a fan would feel when they’re in the stadium.

He also added that without his fans, he would not be where he is at today and he has the utmost respect for being loyal.

Author’s take

Rey Mysterio’s preview of the big game was spectacular and it would have been amazing if Liverpool could have done a similar preview with Sheamus to spice things up. For those of you who don’t know, Sheamus is a hardcore Liverpool fan.

In fact, Sheamus once wore a full Liverpool kit to a WWE Live event in Manchester to annoy the audience! He even convinced his tag-team partner Cesaro to wear the kit before going on to sing the Liverpool club anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
