What’s the story?
In a recent Instagram post, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and veteran of the wrestling business Rey Mysterio teased a one-on-one match with current WWE Champion AJ Styles.
In case you didn’t know…
This past Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center, Rey Mysterio made his return to the WWE for the first time since 2015. Mysterio, who was a surprise entrant at the 30-man Royal Rumble match, received a great reception from the WWE Universe upon his return to the WWE for the first time in almost three years.
Mysterio was the #27th entrant at this year’s Rumble match and the masked luchador earned an elimination to his name when he got rid of Adam Cole from the Rumble match, however, Mysterio’s return was eventually cut short by Finn Balor.
The heart of the matter
Earlier today, Rey Mysterio took it to his official Instagram account and posted a delightful photo of himself and AJ Styles sharing a laugh with each other at the backstage area of the Wells Fargo Center this past Sunday at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Mysterio tagged the photo with a caption that read: “One Day! A/J-vs-R/M #Respect” teasing towards a potential match between the two men in a WWE ring, sometime down the road. Mysterio and Styles have previously faced off in singles competition against each other when they competed in a one-on-one match at 5 Star Wrestling, however, the two men are yet to share the ring with each other in WWE.
What’s next?
It has been noted, that Mysterio’s latest return to the WWE was more like a one-time thing only and we can confirm for the fact that the former World Champion hasn’t returned to the WWE on a permanent basis. But, we can certainly expect Mysterio to face-off against AJ Styles sometime down the road in WWE.

There is absolutely no doubt that both Mysterio and Styles are among two of the absolute best in today’s Pro Wrestling world, both men have a lot of experience in this business and a singles match between 619 and The Phenomenal One will indeed be an amazing outing.
