What’s the story?

Following his victory at Elimination Chamber, WWE Superstar and now number one contender for the Universal Championship Roman Reigns sent out a tweet regarding his upcoming match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34.

In case you didn’t know...

Reigns and Lesnar first came into conflict at WrestleMania 31, when the former Shield member challenged the Beast Incarnate for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Seth Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase and winning the title prevented Reigns and Lesnar from reaching a conclusion in their singles contest.

The heart of the matter

Reigns appeared on the post pay-per-view show, Raw Talk, and said that his Universal Championship match against Lesnar was three years in the making.

He expressed similar sentiments on Twitter and brought up the fact that he will main event his fourth WrestleMania in a row, when he challenges Lesnar for the title in New Orleans.

Since their match at WrestleMania 31, Reigns and Lesnar have competed against each other only in three multi-man match scenarios, making their match at WrestleMania 34 only their second singles contest.

With his fourth WrestleMania main event on the horizon, the former WWE Champion is currently tied with John Cena, The Rock and Triple H with three WrestleMania main events in a row.

The record for back-to-back WrestleMania main events was established by Hulk Hogan who closed the show fighting for the WWF Championship at the first three WrestleManias. Hogan would go on to break his own WrestleMania main event record by closing the show for five years straight.

If Reigns does fight in the final match of WrestleMania 34, he will have had the most back-to-back WrestleMania main events of the past 25 years.

What’s next?

Reigns and Lesnar are expected to confront each other on Monday Night Raw and this is in direct contrast to how the company built up their WrestleMania 31 match.

Lesnar and Reigns only had two face-to-face interactions in 2015, but it seems like WWE is getting straight to the point this time.

Author’s take

Many fans resent Reigns for emerging from the Elimination Chamber victorious, so hopefully he delivers a stellar main event performance in April.
