WWE News: Roman Reigns influenced The Usos' Heel turn
The Usos have been one of the premier tag teams in WWE for years now. For three straight years, they won the Slammy Award for “Tag Team Of The Year”, even in cases like last year where they were out for half of the entire year. However, through and through they have been the colourful babyfaces. However, following their association with Roman Reigns since last year, they have openly stated on Talking Smack that this has led to the fans turning on them.
As we have seen recently, The Usos have undergone a tremendous change in attitude, turning heel. The heel persona has seen them get rid of the face paint, the catchy theme song and their overall presentation. And for the first time in six years, the refresh button has been set on them.
The Usos were the guests on Michael Cole’s weekly WWE.com exclusive interview, and they answered what the change in their attitude was all about:
The Usos credited their cousin Roman Reigns for the heel turn. They told Michael Cole that he can see every Monday Night on Raw what the reaction to Reigns was and still is. Nothing but negativity – relentless booing, despite the fact that he was doing the right thing, and the fans booed them when they were trying to do the right thing by helping their cousin as well, and that was when Jimmy said that the fans did not mean much to them.
The Usos said that family is more important than what the fans think. When asked what their father, Hall of Famer Rikishi, has thought about their change in personality, they said that he will back them 100% even if he does not fully agree with them. They proceeded to close out by saying that for the first time they have stopped caring what the fans think about them and that they are being talked about heavily. Whether it is good or bad, they are being talked about nonetheless.
The Usos have upped their game since turning heel, and have added a breath of fresh air to the Smackdown Live tag team division. American Alpha needed a top heel team to feud with, and that was when the decision was taken to turn The Usos heel, as they were the only team in the tag team roster of the blue brand that had the credibility to carry out that role.
