What's the story?
Following his Intercontinental Championship win on Raw this week, Roman Reigns was interviewed backstage by Mike Rome. During his interview, Reigns teased the possibility of bringing back the Open Challenge in the WWE for his Intercontinental Title.
In case you didn't know...
On this week's Raw, Shield member Roman Reigns went toe-to-toe with The Miz for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Reigns and Miz wrestled each other in a solid match on the evening and in the end, a spear sealed the victory for "The Big Dog" as he ended "The A-Lister's" 7th Intercontinental Championship reign at 169 days.
Despite a valiant effort, The Miz failed to retain his championship as he fell victim to Roman Reigns' resilience.
The heart of the matter
Roman Reigns' victory over The Miz on this week's episode of Monday Night Raw meant that "The Big Dog" has now officially entered the elite list of Grand Slam Champions in the WWE as he won the WWE Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his career.
Following his win, Reigns was interviewed backstage by Mike Rome, where he admitted that he did not realise that he had become a Grand Slam Champion in the WWE until his Shield stablemate Dean Ambrose told him inside the ring, following his title win. Reigns also added that despite him being sidelined for a while it was his passion for the business that helped him to overcome tough situations.
The new IC Champion went on to thank all his fans for their tremendous support and also thanked his family. The 32-year-old ended his interview by saying that the open challenge is coming in soon, teasing an Intercontinental Title open challenge.
What's next?
As stated by Reigns, it seems likely that the WWE will bring back the Open Challenge, this time for the IC Title.
Author's Take
I think the Open Challenge is going to help a lot of Superstars to showcase their talents in front of a live crowd. We can potentially witness some great matches on Raw in the coming weeks, matches like Reigns vs Balor, Reigns vs Cesaro, Reigns vs Karl Anderson and more.
