What’s the Story?

Raw General Manager Kurt Angle announced that Roman Reigns will defend his Intercontinental Championship at the 25th Anniversary of WWE Monday Night Raw in two weeks.

In case you didn’t know...

The Miz was the reigning Intercontinental Champion until he was defeated by Reigns on the Nov. 20 edition of Raw; the show after Survivor Series. The Miz would be absent from WWE television for the next six weeks due to a filming a movie.

The heart of the matter

The Miz returned to WWE programming on tonight’s episode of Raw and held the first MizTV segment since the Raw after Survivor Series.

During the segment, the former Intercontinental Champion cut a scathing promo on the Big Dog and said that Reigns’ title reign was a far cry from everything The Miz did with the title in the 2017 year and vowed to win his title back.

The Miz approached Angle later on in the night and requested his rematch for the Intercontinental Championship against Reigns at the 25th Anniversary of Raw, which the General Manager approved.

If The Miz wins the championship at the 25th Anniversary of Raw, he would only be one title reign away from tying Chris Jericho’s record of 9 Intercontinental Championship wins - the most championship reigns in WWE history.

What’s next?

Many fans believe that Reigns will retain the Intercontinental Championship heading into WrestleMania 34 and will place his title on the line against Universal Champion Brock Lesnar in a Champion versus Champion match similar to WrestleMania VI

If Reigns doesn’t lose the Intercontinental Championship at the 25th Anniversary of Raw, the theory of the looming Champion vs. Champion match will become closer to fact than fiction.

Author’s take

With WrestleMania 34 down the line, this match could be anyone’s game which makes it a much less predictable match than their previous encounters.
