What’s the story?

In an interview with the Kingston Whig-Standard, Ronda Rousey opened up on a myriad of topics.

Most prominently, Rousey spoke about starting in pro wrestling from scratch. Besides, Rousey praised her fellow performers, while also speaking about giving the business her best, and WWE’s faith in her.

In case you didn’t know…

“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey is considered to be a Women’s MMA pioneer and is a former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

Rousey recently transitioned to the sports-entertainment business, signing with the WWE, and is regarded by pro-wrestling experts as one of the WWE’s biggest acquisitions in recent times.

The heart of the matter

Ronda Rousey reiterated her respect for pro-wrestling performers; alluding that spontaneity is a key attribute in this business, particularly considering how the WWE Superstars simply chalk out a match within 5 minutes and then perform.

Rousey added that as compared to a movie stunt scene or fight choreography, pro wrestling is much more challenging, primarily owing to the fact that unlike the movies, performers do not have the liberty of getting retakes in professional wrestling.

Furthermore, Rousey explained that she intends to give every ounce of her energy to this business, and she wants to be the best that she can. Rousey continued that at times, giving the best she can, could change the world, and she’s chuffed to see what she can accomplish in the WWE. Rousey added:

“I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity. To be honest, sometimes I can't believe my own life and the stuff that is happening—I really feel like I'm investing every bit of myself into this and I really feel like the company is matching my effort in every way."

She continued to speak up about the efforts that she is putting in:

"If I'm pouring every ounce of energy I have into this being a success and they're doing everything they can to set me up for success, all I can do is go out there and prove them right for believing in me. Yeah, it's a lot of pressure and probably a crazy and unrealistic amount of pressure to put on someone for their first match ever, but you know what, if anyone in the world can handle it, I believe it can be me."

What’s next?

Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle compete against Stephanie McMahon & Triple H in a Mixed Tag Team Match at WrestleMania 34 which takes place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on 8 April.

Author’s take

Ronda Rousey truly is an excellent athlete, whose passion for the pro wrestling industry is admirable.

All eyes are on Rousey in what will be her first official WWE match. Add to that the fact that her debut match takes place on the Grandest Stage of Them All, and pressure seems to be at an all-time high.

Regardless, if anyone can handle mountainous odds and unimaginable pressure, it’s indeed The Rowdy One.
