What's the story?

Ronda Rousey discussed her multiple sporting careers during an interview with UFC.com’s Megan Olivi, including her recent one-year spell in WWE.

The former Raw Women’s champion admitted that she is a big fan of one of her biggest rivals and revealed which WWE storyline she personally requested.

In case you didn't know…

The landscape of women’s wrestling changed in January 2018 when it was confirmed that MMA icon Ronda Rousey had signed with WWE.

Dubbed “The Baddest Woman on the Planet”, she teamed with Kurt Angle to defeat Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in her first match at WrestleMania 34, while she went on to have rivalries with Nia Jax, Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks before main-eventing WrestleMania 35 with Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch.

Although her first match took place in 2018, Rousey’s first in-ring WWE appearance came in 2015 at WrestleMania 31, where she joined forces with The Rock to mock Triple H and Stephanie during a promo segment.

The heart of the matter

Ronda Rousey revealed during the interview that she wanted to revive her 2015 storyline with Stephanie McMahon by facing her in her first official match as a WWE Superstar.

“When I first came to the organisation, I was like, ‘Hey, I’d really like to do this for a couple of months, I’m gonna have a baby soon, so this isn’t forever’ but my one request when we first started was I wanted to finish my storyline with Stephanie, so that was my one request because I love Stephanie McMahon so much, which is so funny because we’re supposed to hate each other’s guts, but I love her! Oh my god, I love her so much!”

She added that there was no way she would fail in WWE with guidance from the likes of Triple H.

“It was such an incredible experience. Like, Triple H taught me how to lace up by boots. He literally was like, ‘Oh no, you wanna do it from the outside in.’ I’m like, ‘Triple H is showing me how to lace up my boots. How can I not succeed in this situation where I have all of the best people in this business set in place to help me succeed?’”
