What's the story?
Since Ronda Rousey has turned heel, she has taken things out on the WWE Universe and the business alike.
Apparently, she wanted to get one over on the fans in another way as SEScoops.com reports that she wanted to prank the WWE Universe by announcing that she was pregnant right before WrestleMania 35.
In case you missed it . . .
On the Road to WrestleMania, fans have been cheering loudly for Becky Lynch even when her opponents in April, Charlotte Flair and Rousey, are in the ring and Lynch is not.
Since Rousey hasn't been treated as a fan favourite as much as she would like, WWE pulled the trigger on her turning heel. She has gone full heel by bashing the fans, the pro wrestling industry and everyone and anyone who crosses her or her husband.
The heart of the matter
The report from SEScoops.com mentions that she pitched the idea of announcing that she was pregnant on the April Fools episode of Raw next week to Paul Heyman.
Due to WWE going ahead with the announcement that her triple threat match with Flair and Lynch would be the match to close WrestleMania 35, Heyman said although it was a good idea, that the match going on last was more of the priority.
“I sent him this long text, basically saying: ‘Hey, Paul, let’s do an April Fool’s Day joke on April Fool’s Day on RAW, saying that I’m pregnant and that the women are no longer the main event in WrestleMania, because I’m out.’ Then at the end of the show, we can say, “April Fool’s!”
Heyman agreed that it would have been a good prank for the episode of Raw right before 'Mania, but things were unfolding a different way.
“Then he called me back immediately, and he said, ‘Yeah, great idea and all, but they’re going to announce to all major outlets and everything that the women are actually going to main event, this Monday. So we can’t do your April Fool’s Day joke. They’re making that official, official.’ I was like, oh, shoot!”
It was actually through that conversation that Rousey found out that her match would be the first-ever women's bout to close out a WrestleMania PPV.
What's next?
WWE wouldn't be announcing that the women are closing the show if they didn't think they could handle the pressure of main-eventing the biggest show of the year.
Lynch, Flair and Rousey have all main-evented various PPVs over the last year, so they should pull out all the stops to tear the house down.
Even though Rousey's prank idea would have been a good way to rib the WWE Universe, it would have been hard to pull off with fans knowing it was April Fools' Day rather than a random day.
But it's good to see that she's pitching ideas and learning that everything you want to be done cannot be done in pro wrestling.
