WWE News: Rusev asks for a celebrity to face him at WrestleMania, The Rock responds

What’s the story?

Last night, Rusev took to social media to campaign for a match at WrestleMania and was met with several responses - not least of all from WWE legend turned Hollywood actor Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson!

In case you didn't know...

Rusev and The Rock do have a history after The 'Bulgarian Brute' was interrupted by 'The People's Champ' on Raw in 2014, which you can relive below.

When it comes to WrestleMania, The Rock usually isn't too far away. It had been thought that he may not appear this year as many thought if he did, he would partner Ronda Rousey against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, to bring their WrestleMania 31 appearance full circle now that Rousey is officially a WWE Superstar.

The heart of the matter

Rusev has so far been left wanting when it comes to a match at WrestleMania but he hatched a cunning plan by asking celebrities to step up on Twitter. Well, I don't think he expected a response from a man who fits into the camp of celebrity and WWE Superstar!

Well, The Rock wasn't keen to volunteer his own services, unfortunately, but he did have a hilarious suggestion for The Bulgarian Brute...

Other replies have come from Stephen Amell, who faced off against Stardust at Summerslam in a move that has since seen him appear at several indie events and be confirmed for Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks' All in event. However, the Arrow star didn't seem so keen...

What’s next?

Well, we all know WWE loves having celebrity appearances, particularly at WrestleMania.

I guess we'll see if this genius move from Rusev takes off in due course.

I think it's pretty genius. With the year Rusev has had, and how over he has gotten himself and the Rusev Day gimmick, it would be absolutely criminal if he weren't to appear on The Grandest Stage of Them All. If the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal ends up being confirmed for this year, as expected, Rusev could be an incredible shout to be the winner of the match. A celebrity match could be incredible for Rusev, though.
