WWE News: Rusev's WrestleMania 34 opponent may not even be from WWE

Happy Rusev Day y'all!
Happy Rusev Day!

What's the story?

Rusev has taken it upon himself to carve out a path to WrestleMania. The most over Superstar in all of WWE took to Twitter earlier today and lobbied for a celebrity match at the Grandest Stage of Them All.

In case you didn't know...

After Braun Strowman, Rusev Day is arguably the best thing put forward by the WWE Creative Team in recent memory. The payoff, though, has been much sweeter for the Monster Among Men as compared to the Bulgarian Brute, who despite being insanely over with the fans, has been on the losing end in a majority of matches and feuds.

Rusev lost to Shinsuke Nakamura is a solid opener at Fastlane and was also eliminated from the Mixed Match Challenge earlier this week when himself and Lana were beaten by the Glorious team of Charlotte and Bobby Roode.

However, the losses haven't dampened Rusev's mood and the former US Champion seems to be planting the seeds for a high-profile match at the show of shows.

The heart of the matter

Last year's WrestleMania had Rob Gronkowski play a major role in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal when the NFL Tight End helped his buddy Mojo Rawley to overcome Jinder Mahal to win the trophy.

However, it's been a while since a big-name celebrity had an actual match at Mania with Floyd Mayweather being the last known name to have had a legit bout at WrestleMania 24 against the Big Show.

Shaquille O'Neil was in talks to face Big Show at WrestleMania 32 and 33 but the match was called off on both occasions due to a breakdown in negotiations.

Coming back to the man of the hour, Rusev deserves to have a massive Mania moment considering how hot he is at the moment.

What's next?

Whether Rusev's teasers materialize into a match makes for an interesting road to WrestleMania. A bonafide legend on social media, we would be surprised if Rusev calls out a few big names before the show comes by in April.

Author's take

The Rock is technically one of the biggest celebs in the world, just saying. So what if the Great One can't wrestle, a segment with the naturally hilarious Rusev and his sidekick Aiden English would be a great comic filler in a stacked card. Heck, get Rusev to squash Donald Trump for god's sake!
