What's the story?

On this past week's episode of SmackDown Live, Rusev was involved in a triple threat match to determine the number one contender for the US Championship at Backlash.

Randy Orton went on to win the bout and post the match, The Bulgarian Brute took to Twitter to make his displeasure felt.

In case you didn’t know…

A few weeks ago on SmackDown Live, Rusev pinned then US Champion Randy Orton to win a tag team match. He used the victory to earn himself a spot on the US Title match at WrestleMania 34.

The US Title match at WrestleMania saw Randy Orton, Bobby Roode, Rusev and Jinder Mahal fight it out in a Fatal-4-way match. Surprisingly, Mahal won the match to become the new US Champion.

The heart of the matter

Rusev was easily the most over Superstar among the four, heading into the Fatal-4-way match at WrestleMania, with Rusev Day chants echoing throughout the Superdome. Hence, it was surprising that WWE decided to put the title on Ma.

Again in the number one contender's match on SmackDown Live, Rusev Day chants could be heard throughout the match, with fans rooting for the Bulgarian Brute. But once again, the WWE Universe was disappointed when Randy Orton ended up winning the bout.

After the match, Rusev posted a tweet saying he had had enough, and that maybe it was time for a change.

While it is unclear what Rusev means by change, it might be a hint that he might move over to Raw in the Superstar shake-up next week.

However, with rumours doing rounds last month about Rusev asking for his release prior to being added to the match at WrestleMania, this might even be an indication that Rusev is mulling asking for his release again.

What's next?

It is not clear what is next for Rusev. Hopefully, he will get a much-deserved push on Raw, possibly in the Intercontinental Title scene.

Author's take

It is no mean feat getting over organically in 2018, but Rusev has made it happen for himself. He's great in the ring as well as on the mic and is amazingly over with the fans. Hopefully, WWE has something big planned for him going forward.
