What's the story?

This week's Christmas Day WWE Raw saw Roman Reigns defend the Intercontinental title in a match against Samoa Joe. The former NXT Champion seemed to have the better of Reigns and was focussing his attack on the Big Dog's arm which looked like it could be injured.

However, Reigns managed to shove Joe into a corner and attacked him with a flurry of strikes before pushing the referee away. This act caused the match to be called off due to a disqualification.

Roman Reigns continued the onslaught post-match and blasted the left shoulder of Joe with the steps and a steel chair.

In case you didn't know...

Last week's Raw saw Samoa Joe injure Dean Ambrose's arm, in kayfabe, putting the Lunatic Fringe out of action. Ambrose is not scheduled to return in the immediate future, and Samoa Joe promised to take out each member of the Shield methodically.

He previously injured Rollins just before WrestleMania and promised to shift his focus to Roman Reigns.

The heart of the matter

Roman Reigns continued his attack on Samoa Joe post-match, hitting him with a Superman Punch. The reigning Intercontinental Champion then proceeded to batter Joe with the ring steps and almost hit him with a steel chair as well. However, Joe managed to make a hasty retreat.

What's next?

Roman and Samoa Joe are likely to continue their feud on the next Raw, which is scheduled to take place on New Year's Day. The two may continue to face each other until the Royal Rumble pay-per-view where Reigns and Joe they could have a match for the Intercontinental title.

Author's take

This feud makes sense with Roman Reigns incensed at his comrade having been injured by Samoa Joe. With nothing else for the two on the cards between now and the Royal Rumble, this feud should prove to be fairly entertaining.
