What’s the story?

In the latest edition of his podcast 1, 2, 360, Sean Waltman, better known as X-Pac, gave his thoughts on the recently concluded NXT Takeover: Philadelphia. While opening up about Takeover: Philadelphia, Waltman also talked about what Triple H had previously told him about Johnny Gargano.

In case you didn’t know…

At NXT Takeover: Philadelphia, Johnny Gargano battled a grueling match against NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas. The two men put their bodies on the line and put on an instant classic at the Wells Fargo Centre.

Gargano, who has previously never held a singles title in NXT, had the chance of doing the unthinkable by getting the upset win over Almas. However, despite a strong display of resiliency the former #DIY member was not able to defeat Cien, as the Mexican star retained his NXT Championship in a five-star match.

The heart of the matter

Sean Waltman stated in his latest podcast episode, that it was an absolutely heartbreaking moment to witness Johnny Gargano come up short in his NXT Title match against Andrade “Cien” Almas, but, Waltman agreed to the fact that the match itself was really good.

X-Pac then added that Triple H had previously told him about Johnny Gargano and claimed that Gargano was one of the last white meat babyfaces remaining in the pro wrestling world today. Additionally, X-Pac stated that Gargano is the kind of guy who perfectly fits into his babyface role as of right now.

“Hunter told me, I hit him up afterward and he was like, 'Yeah Gargano is the last of the white meat babyfaces.' And that's pretty much true right now. Not that there can't be any more you know? But as far as what we have to choose from right now he's the guy that kind of fits that. I don't really see anyone else."

What’s next?

Following his loss to Andrade “Cien” Almas, Johnny Gargano was blindsided by the returning Tommaso Ciampa, who attacked his former tag team partner with a crutch this past Saturday in Philly. It is now likely that Ciampa will battle Gargano, as soon as “The Psycho Killer” is ready to return to the ring.

Author’s take

Personally, I think that Gargano vs Ciampa should take place during WrestleMania 34 weekend at NXT Takeover: New Orleans. There is absolutely no doubt in anyone’s mind that both Ciampa and Gargano will put on a 'Match of the Year' contender, when they finally collide in NXT.
