Shane McMahon made a surprise return on the Raw after Fastlane, declaring to his father Vince McMahon and sister Stephanie that he returned to WWE to take control of Monday Night Raw. Vince agreed, but only if Shane McMahon defeated The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 32 at a Hell In A Cell match.
Towards that cause, Shane performed a death-defying jump from the top of the steel structure. Alas, it wasn’t enough.Shane McMahon is not new to life-threatening risks, as his match with Kurt Angle at King of The Ring 2001 displayed. In this match, after a suplex on the hard floor, Angle was believed to have cracked Shane’s tailbone.
Angle also delivered an overhead belly to belly suplex through the plated glass stage set, but McMahon did not break through on the first attempt, causing him to fall head-first onto the concrete floor, causing him a concussion.
Shane McMahon recently spoke on the Cheap Heat Podcast, where he gave his take on Angle potentially ending his career at WWE and a possible match with him in the future. He also stated that he is open to having a match again, once the time is right.
He stated that while he has recovered fully from his match at Wrestlemania 32, it takes longer for him to heal up at the age he is at than it did when he wrestled more than a decade earlier. He described it all as a “thrill”.
He also had this to say about his Street Fight match with Angle:
“I was very proud of the match, first and foremost. [I] got in there with an amazing talent, which was Kurt and we went after it. One of the things that I always try to do is, I always try to go out and give my absolute best and I approach everything that this is my last match and I always did it that way. So, again, growing up in the [professional wrestling] business and seeing so many of the greats and truly witnessing amazing matches, I always hoped in my mind that I'd have an opportunity to even scratch the surface and even attempt to have one of those matches. So that's how I approached every single thing, every match that I've ever done. Some click more than others, but Stan Hansen said at the [WWE] Hall Of Fame you need great opponents. And right story, Kurt and I clicked, and we went after it. And, again, I am very proud of the match."
When asked whether he would like to see Angle finish his career with WWE, McMahon admitted that he was not familiar with Angle's health status. However, Shane did welcome the idea of a future match with the Olympic Gold Medalist.You can listen to the full podcast here.
