What's the story?

The WWE sent a press release for the next instalment of The Marine movie series on Wednesday. Within the press release, the WWE revealed that Becky Lynch and "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels will join The Miz in the sixth movie in the series.

In case you didn't know...

The Marine franchise began in 2006 with John Cena playing the lead role and Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgement Day) co-starring alongside Cena. Ted DiBiase Jr. was the lead actor in The Marine 2 in 2009, and The Miz started with The Marine 3: Homefront.

The heart of the matter...

The title of the upcoming movie is The Marine 6: Close Quarters. James Nunn (who directed The Marine 5: Battleground) will return as the director for The Marine 6 with filming scheduled to start on November 27 in London, England.

The press release also contained the plot for The Marine 6. Take a look at the description of the movie below:

When Jake Carter (The Miz) and fellow Marine Luke Trapper (Shawn Michaels) stumble upon a kidnapped girl being held prisoner by a dangerous gang of international criminals, they find themselves in the crosshairs as they try to save the girl and bring her kidnappers to justice.

Over the past couple of years, Michaels started acting more with roles in recent movies that include The Resurrection Of Gavin Stone in 2015 and Pure Country Pure Heart in 2017. This will be the first acting role for Becky Lynch.

Past instalments of The Marine franchise have included a number of WWE Superstars. Summer Rae starred in The Marine 4: Moving Target; while Bo Dallas, Heath Slater, Curtis Axel, Maryse, and Naomi starred in The Marine 5: Battleground.

What's next?

As stated earlier, filming will start on The Marine 6: Close Quarters this Monday. Typical production on these WWE films last anywhere from five to six weeks; which means The Miz could return in time for the Royal Rumble.

Author's take...

It's great to see The Marine is continuing to produce movies as it is the most successful franchise of WWE Films, and you can definitely see that The Miz takes great joy in playing the role of Jake Carter. It will be interesting seeing how Miz and Michaels work together as Marines in this action film.
