What's the story?

Last night's episode of WWE NXT saw a huge title match as the NXT North American Champion, Johnny Gargano, defended his title against the winner of the Worlds Collide tournament - the Velveteen Dream.

In case you didn't know...

Johnny Gargano made his main roster debut this week on both RAW and SmackDown, teaming up with the NXT Champion - his former best friend and tag-team partner - Tommaso Ciampa.

The former DIY members faced and beat the RAW Tag-Team Champions, The Revival, on RAW. Gargano and Ciampa put on an impressive performance on their first night on the main roster along with fellow NXT debutants Ricochet and Aleister Black.

The following night on WWE SmackDown Live, Shane McMahon invited all 4 men back after being impressed with their debuts. We got to see Ciampa and Gargano team up again as they faced the former SmackDown Tag-Team Champions, The Bar, and beat them.

The heart of the matter

Last night's episode of WWE NXT saw Johnny Gargano go one-on-one with the Velveteen Dream, who chose to face Gargano after winning the Worlds Collide Tournament.

As always, Gargano and Dream put on an incredible match but many were surprised by the finish with Velveteen Dream winning the match and being crowned the new NXT North American Champion.

What's next?

At this point, it looks pretty certain that WWE may have big plans for Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa sooner rather than later. WrestleMania is less than two months away and don't be surprised if the TakeOver before Mania turns out to be Gargano and Ciampa's last night in NXT.

It looks pretty certain that WWE will promote a number of NXT stars to the main roster after WrestleMania and Gargano and Ciampa will be the first two names on that list.
