What’s the story?

Speaking to Sporting News, Rich Swann’s attorney Ian M. Pickens of Meldon Law issued a statement on Rich Swann’s behalf.

Besides, Pickens also filed a note of appearance in the Alachua County Court so as to affirm that he and his law firm will be representing Swann. Pickens insinuated that they’re coming up with things to assist Swann, and will look to resolve this matter at the earliest.

In case you didn’t know…

Rich Swann was arrested on charges of false imprisonment/kidnapping and misdemeanor battery for allegedly using a headlock to drag and take his wife with him after she jumped from their vehicle. Fans can read reactions to the incident in the WWE locker room right HERE.

His wife, indie wrestler Su Yung (real name—Vannarah Riggs) revealed to the police that as they were driving back from an indie event where she’d performed, he was critiquing her performance, and she feared that matters would escalate into physical violence on his part as he’s known to have anger issues. Hence, she jumped, following which he went after her and forcibly brought her back to the vehicle and drove her away with him.

The heart of the matter

Ian Pickens addressed the incident involving his client Rich Swann; stating—

“At this point, no criminal charges have been filed officially against him so depending on how that process plays out will determine our scope of representation…We're hopeful for a fair and quick resolution on behalf of Mr. Swann, but ultimately the state attorney will make their decision (on potential charges) when they deem it appropriate."

Furthermore, Pickens explained that he and the firm are now working on the case and things they could do in order to help Swann. Pickens added that as regards specifics in the case, he cannot comment on that.

What’s next?

The WWE has suspended Rich Swann indefinitely, and should the allegations against him be proven in court, his contract with WWE shall be terminated.

Meanwhile, per the police report, Swann claimed that he did not use physical violence to get his wife back into the vehicle—despite two witnesses having corroborated the account that he put Yung in a headlock before dragging her back to the car—and that the only reason he pursued her on the road was because she had the phone which showed the GPS directions towards the place he was headed.

Author’s take

The Rich Swann-Su Yung case seems to be slowly but steadily going through the legal motions, so to speak.

Here’s where things usually get ugly and allegations are let loose in court proceedings. Let’s hope Swann and Yung get closure on this incident at the earliest, and justice is upheld.
