In case you didn't know. . .
Rob Gronkowski is a recently retired NFL star who played for the New England Patriots.
The WWE Universe might recognize him from WrestleMania 33's Pre-show, where he aided his friend Mojo Rawley in winning the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, by putting down Jindar Mahal.
The duo went on to celebrate Rawley's shocking victory in the battle royal.
Recently, Gronkowski announced his retirement, and the rumors began running around regarding "The Gronk" debuting in WWE. Mojo Rawley stated recently that he expects future WWE appearances from Rob.
The heart of the matter
The former Footballer was recently awarded the USO-Metro Merit Award. The award recognizes talents who are dedicated to serving others through volunteerism.
Stephanie McMahon chimed in and congratulated Gronkowski, adding that the doors of WWE are always open for him.
Gronkowski was well received during his appearance in the 4th Annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33. A possibility of him making an appearance or even a full-fledged career in WWE can't be discounted.
Several professional athletes have made a name in professional wrestling in the past, most notably Bill Goldberg in WCW, who went on to become one of the biggest Superstars of The Attitude Era.
"The Gronk"'s mainstream appeal could be the real reason why Stephanie and the other higher-ups in WWE want him to join the company. With WWE turning into a globally recognized brand, appearances from the likes of Gronkowski would mean tons of mainstream attention.
