WWE News: Steve Austin on why he didn’t appear at WrestleMania 33

Austin clears up any speculation on his absence from WrestleMania 33

What’s the story?

WWE Legend ’Stone Cold’ Steve Austin recently explained on his podcast, ‘The Steve Austin Show’, why he did not appear at this year’s WrestleMania event.

The Background

After making memorable appearances at both WrestleMania 30 and 32, Austin was conspicuous by his absence at 2017’s ‘Showcase of the Immortals’. The biggest event of the year is famed for having former stars return or make one-off appearances on the show and Steve Austin is one of the biggest stars in pro-wrestling history. Therefore, the fact that he didn’t attend this year’s Mania led to some speculation that there may be issues between him and WWE, but Austin came out to put an end to those rumors.

The heart of the matter

Speaking on his ‘Steve Austin Show’ podcast – which you can listen to at podcastone.com – Austin explained that the reason for his absence from WrestleMania 33 was due to the fact that he recently sold his ranch in Texas and at the time of the event, he “had a lot of irons in the fire”.

‘The Texas Rattlesnake’ stressed that he is still on good terms with WWE and will always have a working relationship with them for as long as he lives.

“The WWE will always be a part of my life. Man, I’m in this thing for the rest of my life. That’s the relationship I have with the WWE. So there’s never been no heat, no this, no that, no whatever. I’m at a great place with those guys and I’m thankful for everything they’ve done for me, I’m sure they are thankful for the things I did for them. Again, I’m a WWE member for life.”

What’s next?

While Austin hasn’t done anything with WWE since his WrestleMania 32 cameo, he himself has silenced any rumors of ill-feelings between the two parties. Therefore, it is definitely an appearance or some sort of a collaboration between them in the future is an obvious possibility.

Author’s take

People shouldn’t read too much into the likes of Austin missing WWE’s biggest event of the year. If former stars such as ’Stone Cold’, The Rock or any other legend for that matter make appearances at every WrestleMania, then it will become predictable and lose its uniqueness.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder and the longer they are away, the more special it will feel when our favorite superstars do return to the company.
