What's the story?

Jon Moxley, formerly known as Dean Ambrose in WWE, took part in an awkward interview on Steve Austin’s ‘Stone Cold Podcast’ on the WWE Network in August 2016.

Speaking on the first episode of his returning ‘Steve Austin Show’ podcast, Austin revealed why he has felt “haunted” by their conversation for so long.

In case you didn't know…

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin hosted a video version of his podcast on the WWE Network between 2014 and 2016. The WWE Hall of Famer interviewed Superstars including Brock Lesnar, Paige and AJ Styles, as well as Vince McMahon and Triple H.

However, his most talked-about episode, which also happened to be the final interview in the series, came in August 2016 when he was joined by Jon Moxley.

As Moxley has since explained during a conversation with Wade Keller, he informed WWE’s producers that he did not want to talk about his upbringing during his appearance on the podcast.

Seemingly unaware of the request, Austin asked Moxley about his childhood after two minutes and the rest of the hour-long podcast was full of short answers and awkward pauses.

Austin’s podcast deal with WWE was already due to expire after the interview, but many fans assumed that his series was cancelled due to the disappointing conversation with Moxley.

The heart of the matter

AEW president Tony Khan was a guest on the ‘Steve Austin Show’ podcast this week.

When they began to discuss Jon Moxley’s appearance at the end of the Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega match at Double or Nothing, Austin gave his take on what he described as a “rough podcast” with Moxley.

“I have been carrying a thousand pounds on my back ever since that happened. I felt so bad about that interview and I was leading the interview, so I take the fault of it, because I’m there to get people over and make them come off like a million bucks.”

After mentioning that he recently spoke with Moxley on the phone for 30 minutes and they are now “back on the same page”, Austin added:

“From the end of that interview until just the other day, that one thing is something that I think about almost every single day. I s*** you not, that’s how bad that bothered me.”

Regarding criticism he received on social media about the podcast, he said:

“This has haunted me for so long and people just think I’m this guy – I don’t know, this Darth Vader forcefield around me where I don’t feel things – but I do. And when I’ve not made someone look the way they’re supposed to look, that haunts me.”

What's next?

Jon Moxley will face Joey Janela at AEW Fyter Fest on June 29 before participating in NJPW’s G1 Climax in July. As for Steve Austin, he has confirmed that a new episode of his ‘Steve Austin Show’ podcast will be available every Tuesday, with archive episodes being released every Thursday.
