Former WCW World Champion Sting was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame the night before WrestleMania 32. He became the second active wrestler to get inducted, the first being, Ric Flair. The Vigilante announced his retirement from pro-wrestling during his speech at the ceremony and concluded with “I want you to know this isn’t goodbye. This is a ‘see you later’.” Actually, there are chances of witnessing Sting inside a WWE ring again as he believes that he has one more match left in him.
Almost a year ago, Sting challenged Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship at the Night of Champions pay-per-view. The ‘buckle bomb’ manuever of Rollins seriously injured The Icon, but he continued to wrestle and finish off the match.
It was eventually revealed that he suffered from cervical spinal stenosis, the exact kind of injury which resulted in the end of Edge’s wrestling career. Later, Sting stated that he won’t be undergoing any surgery as he felt ‘completely normal’.
In the recent episode of Legends with JBL, Sting clarified that his pro-wrestling career will actually come to an end if he decides to have the surgery but before that, he needs to deal with some ‘unfinished business’:
“I’ve always wanted to have that match [with The Undertaker], and I know that wrestling fans have always wanted to see it too.”
The veteran wrestler agreed to the fact that WWE needs to sanction this match, otherwise he can do nothing about it. For some unknown reason, WWE has been avoiding the match between two of the all-time greats of the industry. Maybe, Vince McMahon doesn’t want to risk a catastrophe by involving Sting in another match.
Moreover, The Undertaker may not work another WrestleMania match with the company due to the fact that, after his match with Shane McMahon, there were rumors that the Deadman was ‘done’ with wrestling. Still, there are some reports indicating that WWE wants him for one final match and that will be against the 15-time World Champion, John Cena. But if the Undertaker turns down the offer, then Sting may not be seen inside a WWE ring again, as this is the only match he wants at this point.
According to JBL, “[Sting] wants to finish on his feet, with one last hurrah.”
In this edition of Legend with JBL, the Hall of Famer also admitted that he made a wrong decision by not signing with WWE in the early 2000s. As stated by Sting, this mistake cost him the oppurtunity to wrestle The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Brock Lensar, and The Undertaker.
