What's the story?

Stone Cold Steve Austin was a guest on X-Pac's 12360 show where they talked about several topics, including Austin praising the Fashion Files segment featuring Tyler Breeze and Fandango.

One of the main topics they covered was the famous supermarket fight between Austin and Booker T from an edition of Smackdown in December 2001.

In case you didn't know...

This epic encounter took place at the Green Frog Market in Bakersfield, California. This supermarket was established in 1934 and remained in business until they closed their doors in 2013.

This fight occurred in the aftermath of the WWE Invasion angle when the WCW and ECW alliance had to disband after a Survivor Series loss to the WWE team. Booker T aligned with Vince McMahon and the Big Boss Man to feud with Austin.

Austin tormented Booker T all over the arena on that edition of Smackdown after which Booker T left the arena and thought a supermarket was a safe haven. While having a snack from a cereal box, Booker saw someone who looked like Austin and attacked. Once he realised it wasn't Austin he collected himself until he heard the sound of a beer can opening behind him and the epic fight began.

The heart of the matter

Austin said on the podcast that 95% of the scene was ad-libbed, but he and Booker planned out the scene beforehand. After the segment, they had done over $10,000 worth of damage in the supermarket.

Austin figured that the damage would be much more than $10,000 after the encounter took the two WWE Superstars all over the supermarket. The scene included battles in the cooler, Booker T getting thrown into produce, and Austin pouring ketchup, mustard, and flour all over Booker T.

What's next?

Booker T is currently on a hiatus from Monday Night Raw as he tends to the devastation that Hurricane Harvey left in his hometown of Houston.

As for Austin, you can catch him every Tuesday and Thursday on his podcast The Steve Austin Show.

Author's take

If I was to sit down and list ten of my favourite moments in WWE history, the supermarket fight between Austin and Booker T would definitely make the list. I especially loved the end of the scene when Austin loaded Booker T on to a grocery cart, took him to the checkout lane, and yelled, "PRICE CHECK ON JACK**S!" before fleeing the scene as the cops arrived.

It's amazing how so much damage could be done in a short amount of time by the two of them. I'd say it's money well spent because it is a moment that will always be remembered in the WWE.
