What’s the story?

During the latest edition of The Taz Show, former WWE superstar and ECW legend Taz stated that he was not a fan of Ronda Rousey’s debut in WWE and criticized the former UFC Bantamweight Champion for taking the spotlight off the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble winner Asuka.

In case you didn’t know…

During last night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view at the Wells Fargo Center, former UFC Bantamweight Champion ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey finally made her much anticipated WWE debut when she confronted Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, Smackdown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, and the first ever female Royal Rumble winner Asuka.

Following her interaction with Bliss, Flair and Asuka, Ronda decided to offer a handshake to Stephanie McMahon and ended the show by pointing at the Wrestlemania sign.

The heart of the matter

According to Taz, he thinks that Ronda Rousey’s debut at the Royal Rumble somewhat took away the spotlight from Asuka, who earned a hard-fought and historic victory by winning the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match. Taz also added the fact that Ronda Rousey hasn’t earned anything or hasn’t beaten anyone in the WWE yet.

“I mean you’re pointing, Ronda Rousey, I know how tough you are, but what did she earn? She didn’t beat anyone, she didn’t fight anybody here. I don’t get it.”- Taz stated.

Additionally, Taz also weighed in on Andrade “Cien” Almas and Ember Moon’s debut at the Rumble match, as he claimed that putting Moon and Almas in the Royal Rumble match was bad booking and believes that WWE should let NXT stand on their own.

What’s next?

Several reports have suggested that Ronda Rousey will make her in-ring debut at Wrestlemania 34, in New Orleans later in the year, as the MMA veteran gets all set to challenge Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown Women’s Title. However, Dave Meltzer has also suggested that Ronda Rousey might compete in a mixed tag team match against the team of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Author’s Take

I think WWE could’ve certainly played out Ronda Rousey’s debut in a better manner, and I completely agree with Taz that her first appearance in the WWE certainly did take away a lot of spotlight from Asuka and all the other female stars who competed in such a hard fought Women’s Royal Rumble match.
