What’s the story?

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, former WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz discussed the current situation with the WWE Championship, as he weighed in his thoughts on being upset with the on-going scenario that has been surrounding the biggest prize in WWE—alongside the Universal Championship.

In case you didn’t know…

The Miz might be an eight-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, however, ‘The A-Lister’ himself certainly knows a thing or two about being the WWE Champion, having previously won the WWE Championship on one solitary occasion in 2010 after cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on then-champion Randy Orton.

Following his WWE Title win, The Miz went on to headline WrestleMania XXVII against John Cena and also successfully defended the belt against Cena as well, following an interference from The Rock. The Miz eventually lost the WWE Title to John Cena after a staggering reign of 160 days.

The heart of the matter

During his conversation with SI, eight-time WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz revealed his current plans regarding the WWE Championship, as ‘The A-Lister’ noted that his current goal is to make the WWE Championship relevant and prestigious once again, by having it be defended in the main event of every single pay-per-view.

“My goal is to make the WWE championship as relevant and prestigious as it should be. Do I think AJ Styles is doing a terrific job as WWE champion? Absolutely.

Additionally, The Miz stated that seeing the WWE Championship not being defended in the main event of every PPV is definitely an upsetting sight, however, ‘The A-Lister’ now hopes to put the WWE Title back where it belongs.

“But that WWE championship should be in the main event of every single WWE pay per view. It upsets me when I see that it is not. My goal is to not only win the Money in the Bank contract, cash it in and become WWE champion. I want to put that title back where it belongs: the main event.”

What’s next?

The Miz will be a part of this year’s men’s Money in the Bank contract ladder match, which will take place on the 17th of June at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
