LaVar Ball didn't follow the talk show's script, and instead went rogue on Miz TV during RAW

What’s the story?

In a recent edition of the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, The Miz revealed why LaVar Ball’s segment on RAW went wrong.

In reference to the controversial segment during Miz TV on RAW, the former Intercontinental champion said that LaVar Ball didn’t prepare for the segment at all, and the A-Lister had no idea that the Ball family patriarch would strut around the ring shirtless. But, The Miz praised the Ball family for what they bring to the table.

In case you didn’t know…

The Ball family -- best known for patriarch LaVar’s self-promotion methods -- appeared in a Miz TV segment on the June 26th episode of Monday Night RAW.

The segment saw LaVar Ball take off his shirt and jump around the ring, while his youngest son LaMelo mouthed a racial slur during the live broadcast.

The Ball family’s appearance on WWE programming was not well-received by fans and critics alike, however, the vast majority of people in the professional wrestling community praised The Miz for handling the whole situation with class and composure.

The heart of the matter

The Miz finally opened up on the fiasco, giving fans an insider's perspective on how things transpired—

“I walk into their dressing room to go over the script…And (LaVar) says, ‘Nah, we’re good,’ so (I think) ‘I guess we’re going to wing it.'”

“I didn’t hear it (the racial slur). There’s so much going on, and I think it was during Dean Ambrose’s music (and) in the ring, sometimes you can’t even hear the person that is speaking to you (so) I’m literally a really good lip-reader a lot of the time because there’s so much (noise).”

Furthermore, Miz explained that the Ball family’s acts were not planned at all, and he wasn’t privy to any of it, but added that he indeed likes LaVar and the Ball family. The A-Lister added that LaVar is a great promoter and excellent father.

Additionally, Miz pointed out that he has a lot of respect for Lakers rookie, Lonzo Ball, given how quiet the NBA player is and who puts his head down and works.

What’s next?

The Miz presently performs for the WWE’s RAW brand. Meanwhile, the WWE has no immediate plans of bringing back the Ball family on its television programming.

Author’s take

The WWE always listens to its fans, and it’s great to see them handling the Ball family fiasco in the manner they ought to.

As for The Miz, not many performers in the world of sports and entertainment have the laser-sharp focus and composure that the A-Lister possesses. Hats off to him for turning a negative into a positive and proving his mettle once again.
